Main Street Construction Starts Today

The following is an update from NE Department of Transportation:

Placement of Temporary Traffic Control

  • Expect Signs, barrels, and temporary traffic lights to be in place.
  • Traffic will be routed to Cherry Street Detour.
  • Measures have been taken to allow access to businesses at the intersection of HWY 20 & Main Street

Monitoring of Traffic flow may require additional traffic control and/or changes in Traffic Control planning depending on effectiveness of detour signing.

Removals

  • Remove and salvage existing street lights.
    • The City of Valentine electric department will be able to provide electricity to remaining lights on this circuit, allowing removals for only lights within removal locations.
  • Begin removal of existing concrete roadway and sidewalks within the current phasing location.
    • Removals will begin at the intersection of 3rd and Main working north.

Sidewalk Requirements and Pedestrian Accommodations

  • phase the sidewalk removals to leave a minimum four-foot-wide sidewalk in place to accommodate pedestrian access to businesses
  • construct temporary ADA compliant sidewalks
  • temporary sidewalks shall be four-inch-thick concrete, or other suitable ADA compliant material
  • furnish, install and maintain temporary construction fencing
  • pedestrian detours shall be clearly posted

Current planning will leave more than the required 4’ wide sidewalk in place when possible. This sidewalk next to the buildings will stay in place until roadway and curb are built.
