Main Street Project Ahead of Schedule? Yes!

You hardly ever hear the words ahead of schedule on big projects like this one, but here it is!

Ahead of schedule,

An update on Utilities work for the IN VALENTINE projects:

Midlands Contracting, Inc. will complete Sanitary Sewer work in the current removal areas. Water Mains are in place and water testing is in progress, expect water service connections to begin today or tomorrow for the block of 3rd & Main to 4th & Main. The remaining work will be Storm Sewer placement before concrete paving.

Preparation continue to pave the intersection of 3rd & Main. Some grading will begin later in the week. Current scheduling is to complete the intersection of 3rd & Main with parking as the first paving.

Expect concrete surfacing removal to continue Thursday. Additional removals for the block of 1st & Main to 3rd & Main will begin this week. Traffic will be routed around the intersection of 2nd & Main, but a pedestrian crossing will be maintained. Parking will be available on 2nd Street near Main Street.

The remaining decorative street lights will be removed along with the stop light at 2nd & Main.

And always, Traffic Control is to be monitored.

Sidewalk Requirements and Pedestrian Accommodations

The following guidelines are to help business understand planned sidewalk construction adjacent to entry ways.

  • Access closure to businesses during operational hours cannot occur.
  • phase the sidewalk removals to leave a minimum four-foot-wide sidewalk in place to accommodate pedestrian access to businesses
  • furnish, install and maintain temporary construction fencing.
  • pedestrian detours shall be clearly posted

Current planning has left more than the required 4’ wide sidewalk in place when possible. This sidewalk next to the buildings will stay in place until roadway and curb are built.
